Pump Corner Mixed-use development

Refurbishment and restoration of this Grade Two listed building in the town centre, to create four new dwellings, office space and three refurbished shops.

Pump Corner is a three storey, oak timber framed Grade Two listed building in a prominent town centre site dating in part from the eighteenth century. Over the years it had acquired a jumble of alterations and additions, whilst the interior was a neglected series of underused spaces. At the rear a radical transformation created a light-filled yard reached by a narrow passage from the main street. The new steel and timber staircase and double height entrance hall creates a transition from public to the private space of the south-facing apartments.

New spaces were carefully created within the constraints of the restored timber frame, providing eccentric character, and revealing historic detail.
