Plumstead High Street

A local project which introduced transformative change to Plumstead High Street

Plumstead High Street  brought a sequence of interventions to this long established neighbourhood High st. It was funded by the Mayor’s Good Growth Fund which sought to make physical improvement and bring investment to public realm along the High Street, uplifting the pedestrian experience through a rejuvenated sense of place, to embed a sense of identity, revive run down and underused amenities and address issues of antisocial behaviour. The works included the regeneration of 30 independently owned shopfronts, the regeneration of four areas of public realm including Gavin House Green, the regeneration of White Hart Road and the Underpass there.

The upgrades included shopfront art, graphics, highways and pavement improvements, the creation of new pocket green spaces and a lot of new planting which brings biodiversity and seasonal colour.

This project began in 2019 and although delayed, continued through Covid lockdown periods, the engagement with local residents and business owners which was led by make:good lifted up and enriched the process and the results

I have worked with A&S on 2 projects now and the design solutions are always sensitive, exceeding expectation, with a deft understanding of technical details suited to the context and project requirements.

Former colleagues from another London local authority have worked with A&S many years be-fore I had the opportunity to, and their excellent reputation has matched my experience as a client.
