Ocean Green - Linear park

This new linear park transforms previously neglected, dysfunctional spaces, dominated by cars, to provide residents and pedestrians with green space between the busy Mile End Road and the housing of the Ocean Estate.

The project was part of the Olympic High Street 2012 initiative to improve this important highway and introduces a meandering pedestrian route parallel to the main road. On one side grassy bunds and planted banks provide a buffer to the busy traffic, on the other, sinuous brick walls create semi-private green spaces and play areas between housing, replacing parking areas, and providing acoustic and visual separation from the road.

Ground signage and carefully chosen London stock bricks tie the new scheme into the existing estate architecture. Wider public spaces at each end accommodate active uses such as coffee stalls or markets.

Adams & Sutherland have been excellent and proactive throughout the project, handling well, often difficult design discussions and negotiations on our behalf.
