Evergreen adventure play

Evergreen Play Association provides supervised play facilities for Hackney children offering a wild oasis in an area with limited open and green space.

Local estate redevelopment brought an opportunity to extend the play structures and reconsider the landscape. The client ambition was for new structures to inspire creative play, and imagination, which could evolve and adapt over time and provide integrated access to a full range of experiences for all abilities.

A limited budget required phased delivery. First the ground was re-formed to create a ‘landscape of play’. Next, a series of structures were located onto this new ground providing a spatially exciting and circuitous journey of play. Finally improvements were made to the existing play building.

A strong collaborative relationship between design team, play workers and children underpinned the project, and the new playground enjoyed a huge increase in popularity.
