Beckford School - Primary and infant school playgrounds

Following works to their building, the school appointed us to develop their playgrounds, incorporating play, planting and outdoor learning.

The Grade 2 Listed Victorian school has an estate that straddles dramatic level changes providing a ‘contained’ upper playground for nursery and infant pupils, with larger yards and covered areas at lower levels.

We introduced a series of new set pieces, including an outdoor classroom, planted timber walls, a treehouse, a stage that slides back to provide a sandpit, and a playful homage to the beautiful school building with a bespoke playhouse.

Natural materials were a priority, timber screens and surfaces creating a colourful garden for city children to play in, and quietly ordered spaces for moments of calm.
