Sarah Shaw Associate Director

Sarah Shaw was made Adams & Sutherland Associate Director in 2022 following her 8-year role as Associate. She joined the studio in 2010 and has been integral to the leadership team behind some of the Practice’s most high-profile projects.
She was Associate in charge of the RIBA Award-winning scheme at Poplar Works, a cross-laminated timber building that re-purposed an existing garage site for use by the London College of Fashion and a collection of SMEs. She also led A&S’s team on Arc House, Lowlands from competition to completion, overseeing the technical design and working closely with the client and wider stakeholder groups to champion the transformation of an underused open space into a thriving new parkland with a Café/performance building.
Before joining Adams & Sutherland, Sarah worked for Ash Sakula where her projects included the re-modelling and extension of Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff. Sarah became a Conservation Registrant in 2014 and led the conversion work at Grade II Listed Beckford Primary School for over 4 years.
Sarah brings patience, professionalism, imagination, and strategic thinking to all projects and has extensive experience in contract administration and construction at all scales, across the disciplines of landscape, building and public realm. Sarah has a particular skill with a freehand drawing which she deploys in her role as design lead across projects and encourages all staff to explore projects with a pen as well as CAD as part of the design process. Sarah has a leading role overseeing technical drawing strategy and quality, coordinating office resources and as a mentor to other staff members.
Sarah is leading the wider office team in the development of the practice’s Sustainability Action Plan as part of Adams & Sutherlands’ commitment to addressing the climate emergency.
