Newham City Farm Play Barn

Location: Newham, East London
Client: Community Links

This project is the first phase of the delivery of a masterplan upgrading Newham City Farm.  As such the Play Barn is in a context of existing and established buildings and patterns of activity. As the masterplan is gradually implemented there will also be a cumulative effect of increasing the amount of activity on the site.

The Play Barn is a robust low maintenance structure built from sustainable materials to enable children to have active covered play experience engaging with both natural materials and the outdoors. The English Oak structure is sourced locally, as is the timber for secondary elements. The play experience will be based on straw bales, a locally sourced and sustainable product which, when no longer required, will be utilised by the farm.

The flexibility of the proposal means that the barn could be used for additional events within the community or hired out for events.
