Drew Road Playground

Location: Newham, London
Client: London Borough of Newham
Date: Phase 1 Completed 2009

A new neighbourhood space for the awkward hinterland between the existing domestic streetscape and the large new structure of the DLR extension at London City Airport.

A primary school sits adjacent to the space and the scheme introduces play and sport facilities in order to create a new public place for use by local families who use this space daily. A series of new surfaces and enclosures include a colourful space of play for young children and sport for older children in the Multi Use Games Area used by both school and public.
