Chandos Playground

In 2008 existing play and community amenities in Newham were lost as a result of the Olympic Park development. Chandos Open Space was identified for relocation for play facilities and the site of generous open space improvement proposals.

The new playground transforms this flat blank landscape into a new landscape of play at the centre of this residential area. A scoop of raised ground is retained by a new concrete painted wall which defines new play space and provides seating. The large pieces of play equipment are arranged across differing ground levels for a circuit of play experiences at height and across the entire space. The planting and landscape strategy sensitively integrates the playground into the wider landscape.
