Bow Riverside

Location: Bow, London

Client: British Waterways

Date: Completion due 2011

The Lea Navigation is a continuous riverside route stretching from the Thames to the Upper Lea away from London. At Bow walkers and cyclists have to emerge from the relative peace of the canal and negotiate the five-lanes of traffic across the A11 in order to continue their journey. This proposal would reconnect the Navigation towpaths with a floating towpath under the A11 and a new footbridge, and are one part of the wider Bow Gateway initiative.

By understanding the project as a 'condenser of routes'

a more generous public realm is introduced, bringing together and enabling a series of routes across and through the area, serving both local needs for interconnectedness and providing continuity for the

long-distance urban rambler.
