Armada Green

Location: Newham, London
Client: London Development Agency
Date: 2010

Set by Gallions Reach at a dramatic turn in the Thames, Armada Green marks the easternmost point of the Capital Ring footpath: a new public space in which to enjoy the magnificent space, silence and wildlife of the river.

An exposed aggregate concrete surface is tipped to reveal long views to the river and creates a setting for existing and new elements: the Port of London Authority communications mast, a storm water culvert, and an electricity sub station. The ground is inlaid with timber sleepers found on the site, which also form the enclosure to the sub station.
