Eleanor Palmer Primary School

Location: Tufnell Park, London
Client: London Borough of Camden
Date: Completed 2004

We were appointed by this community primary school to develop a series of low-cost projects which would improve both their school buildings and playgrounds. This was an opportunity to introduce new moments of character into the life of the school. Our masterplan identified the best use of their limited budget within a phased programme of works.

In Phase 1 a gloomy and cold corridor was transformed to become a bright, welcoming new teaching-support area, which also serves as an exhibition gallery. A new glazed enclosure opens up views to the playground and the large scale yellow furniture piece, carefully organises disparate activities in this narrow space.

‘We were amazed at how much has been achieved with such a small amount of money. . . It has made such a difference.'
